Q1: Which iPhone models work with this SSD enclosure? Can I use it on a regular non-Pro iPhone?
A1: Full ProRes direct recording: Only compatible with iPhone 15 / 16 / 17 Pro / Pro Max for native 4K@60Hz ProRes recording to external SSD. General file storage: Works with all USB-C iPhones, iPads and laptops as a standard external drive. Note: Regular non-Pro iPhones do not support native ProRes external recording due to hardware limitations.
Q2: Do I need to download an app? How do I set up ProRes recording directly to SSD?
A2: No extra apps required – fully plug & play. Simple steps: First format your M.2 NVMe SSD to ExFAT or APFS on a computer. Magnetically attach the enclosure to your iPhone and connect via USB-C cable. Open the native Camera app, switch to ProRes mode, and it will record directly to the external SSD.
Q3: What M.2 SSDs are supported? What’s the max capacity? Can I use a SATA SSD?
A3: Form factor: M.2 2230 only Protocol: PCIe Gen3 / Gen4 NVMe SSDs. SATA SSDs are NOT supported. Max capacity: Up to 2TB. External power supply is recommended for SSDs over 1TB for more stable performance.
Q4: Is the built-in fan loud? Will it overheat and cut out during long 4K ProRes recordings?
A4: It features an ultra-silent cooling fan, barely audible during shooting and will not be picked up by your microphone. Combined with aerospace-grade aluminum housing and high-conductivity thermal pad, the triple heat-dissipation system maintains full speed performance even during extended 4K recording, no overheating throttling or disconnection.
Q5: Does it stick through a MagSafe case? Will it fall off easily? Can I use it with a computer?
A5: It attaches securely to MagSafe-compatible cases, and stays firmly in place during normal handheld shooting and movement. Beyond mobile recording, it also works with laptops and desktops as a high-speed external drive for file transfer and footage backup.
